Thursday, June 25th: Sun with highs near 77 degrees!

That's right, week 4 of the Medford Square Market brings lots of sun shine and warm weather. What better way to celebrate the first week of summer than to stop by the market!

This week we have quite a few participating vendors. We will have the same farmers, but many more fruits and vegetables. Strawberries are in season so be sure to stock up.

Hubble Graphics, an amazing artist who designs her own handmade stationary will be at the market. Below is an example of one of her newest pieces.

After quite a bit of discussion and interest from local businesses, the MSM is going to be offering "guest vendor" tables to Medford businesses. Farmers markets traditionally shy away from these practices in order to keep its origional purpose and identity, but with the overwhelming interest we have decided to give it a shot. Please email us if you would like to participate as a"guest vendor".

This week we will have Negins Book Store. "Negin Royaee, a Medford resident and mom, features Usborne Books and carries 1,300 titles for children of all ages. You can choose from baby board books, preschool books, kid kits, Spanish titles, internet-linked encyclopedias and more. Many titles will be available this week, or for your convenience at Neginsbookstore.com."

The Medford Square Market is thrilled to have the Jessica Prouty Band perform. Female-fronted foursome from New England is impressive… The band has played lots of gigs and the result is a polished presentation. The gushing, teen-spririted "We're Havin' A Great Time" shows bassist Prouty's voice to be strong and appealing, delivering the song's innocent message with ample enthusiasm. She displays convincing emotion on the ballad "She's No Cinderella." Musicianship never lags, including inspired guitar solos. This teen band is a cut above its peers. (Music Magazine) Be sure to be at the market by 4pm to get up and close with the band.

Thank you to all of the loyal customers that stopped by last week, in the rain. Hope to see you again this week.

Week 3 brings many shades of green.

Thursday 12-7pm, Medford Square, 1 River StreetThis week at the Medford Square Market you will be sure to find lots and lots of GREENS. Our three farms will have lettuces, spinach, collards and leeks. If you are interested in trying a new recipe, the MSM has identified this Cream of Spinach Soup as a favorite. You can purchase most of your ingrediants this week at the market (leeks, garlic scapes, olive oil, and spinach).

This recipe isn't just delicious, but it's really quite healthy. It is loaded with one of our favorite greens, SPINACH! Remember spinach is rich in vitamins A,K and C, as well as folate. Folate can help prevent heart disease. Spinach also contains at least 3 flavonoid compounds that function as antioxidents and anti-cancer agents. Finally, spinach is one of the richest sources of lutein, a carotenoid which helps prevent agerelated macular degeneration. Pretty amazing what a little leaf can do.

For all of those who haven't had a chance to make it down to the Medford Square Market, we like to remind you how important markets like ours, are for everyone. The Medford Square Market connects farmers with consumers, provide a source of fresh, locally grown, high quality food, we build community and strengthen the regional economy. So, if you havent had a chance to help strengthen your community, please do so this week.

New artist of the week:
This week the Medford Square Market is happy to have Carolina Portilla with us. Carolina creates all of her handmade jewelry from recycled materials.

Performing this week:
4-6:30pm, the Tokoyo Tramps

"Hailing from the Land of Rising Sun (Japan), TOKYO TRAMPS is on a mission to deliver joy and excitement of true American music, Blues and Rock'n'Roll. American music has a tremendous power to make three Japanese come down here. The musical journey started when Satoru Nakagawa left Japan to go to Louisiana searching for the spirit of Rock'n'Roll. Soon he found its father, Blues. Yukiko Fujii left a very lucrative job in Tokyo and took a giant step following her heart to play American music in America. Kosei Fukuyama had a dream of becoming the best drummer. His ambition is to hit the big time in America. These three had a chance to meet in Boston, where American Revolution started. Satoru took its name TRAMPS from his early idol, Bruce Springsteen's song, Born To Run - "Tramps like us, baby, we were born to run." Coming to a foreign land, not having home or families, traveling from place to place searching for the best sounds of America, what else can we do to make our dreams come true except playing for a Rock'n'Roll band?"

Laurie and Dean will bring an observation hive to demonstrate and explain the important role each honeybee has in the success of the hive."

Be sure to to be at the market around 2pm to enjoy the Medford Family Network. Marie Cassidy and her team of supers wouldn't miss welcoming the market season. Don't miss Michelle from Find Your Balance as she generously passes out recipes of healthy and nutritious foods you can buy right there at the market.

Starting at 4pm, sit and relax as you enjoy the sweet sounds of Sorry, a local, energetic band that writes and plays mostly original music, but perform some covers as well. Their influences include Lou Reed, Gillian Welch, Neil Young and Patsy Cline.

On behalf of everyone who has tried so hard to continue to help the Medford Square Market grow and flourish, we hope to see you every Thursday for the next few months.

Your friends and neighbors,
